Judicial Outreach Initiative Encouraging Diversity (JOINED) Program
The United States Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania is pleased to announce its Judicial Outreach Initiative Encouraging Diversity (JOINED) Program. The goal of the JOINED Program is to attract new talent and encourage age, disability, racial, ethnic and gender diversity in the federal court system by providing individuals with firsthand experience working with bankruptcy judges and court employees. The JOINED Program is structured around two primary tracks: Volunteer Internships and Paid Summer Employment.
Volunteer Internships
The primary focus of an Internship is the education of the participant. Interns work under the direct supervision of a bankruptcy judge. Assignments are designed to cultivate each Intern’s research, writing, organization, and communication skills. In addition to learning about bankruptcy law and the federal court system, Interns have the opportunity to interact with chambers staff and observe the dynamic teamwork required to maintain the court’s workflow.
Paid Summer Employee
JOINED Program Paid Summer Employees are hired for a term of one month (four 40-hour weeks) to perform work that is integral to the court’s fulfillment of its operational and administrative responsibilities. Summer Employees work under the direct supervision of the court’s executive management team. The types and number of positions are determined by the court’s actual needs and the availability of funds. The qualifications, requirements, and salary vary depending upon the specific job titles.
